The subject of the book is the meeting between A.O. Väisänen and the joik master Ilja Miitrelä at Laitasalmi in Oulanka. Maari Kallberg has written an article about the men’s meeting by studying the notes, diary entries, and other materials archived from A.O. Väisänen’s journey. In her article, she also examines Viena Karelian joik through the joiks of Miitrelän Ilja. Additionally, the book publishes all the joiks recorded from Miitrelän Ilja in manuscripts, scores, and on a CD.
