Kelkettelyeänijä eli vienankarjalaisia joikuja (Kelkettelyeänijä, namely Viena Karelian Joiks)

Viena Karelian joik is a fading genre of singing tradition that was found in a small area in the western parts of Viena Karelia. The most striking feature of these joiks is the chorus, known variously as “hehetykset” or “luikahdukset.” The “hehetykset” showcases the true skills of the joiker. The album features performances by masters of Viena’s tradition. Maari Kallberg has compiled these joiks from the Finnish Literature Society’s sound archive and the recording archive of the Institute of Language, Literature, and History at the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
